We work with our clients to identify and recruit talented individuals from the campaign, advocacy and political sectors to fill their top leadership positions.  With our deep knowledge of organizational dynamics and a keen eye for talent, we find people who best fit the needs of each job.

The Director of Search and Recruitment will lead all aspects of Grossman Heinz’s search and recruitment practice.  The Director will design client searches, conduct stakeholder interviews, develop job descriptions, recruit and screen talented candidates, manage a multi-stage interview process and facilitate offers.  The Director will be the primary point person with all search clients, and will lead the interview process.  The Director will work with the firm’s principals, Andrew Grossman and Christopher Heinz, to identify new business opportunities and will continue to develop and refine processes and best practices.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with and staffing political campaigns and advocacy organizations in a managerial capacity, a deep understanding of how organizations work, a critical eye for talent, strong client management skills, the ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines in a highly organized manner, and a deep commitment to diversity and inclusion.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage ongoing searches and work with the firm's principals to actively develop new search business with current and future clients.
  • Hire and manage search team employees.
  • Develop and conduct client stakeholder interviews for the critical purpose of developing a deep understanding of the organization’s goals, challenges, structure and culture, and outlining the core job responsibilities and qualifications.
  • Identify and address any conflicting opinions or understandings among stakeholders prior to launching the search.
  • Draft job descriptions that clearly lay out the job responsibilities and qualifications for both the client and the candidates.
  • Design interview questionnaires for each round of interviews.
  • Develop and implement recruitment plans which include targeted and widespread outreach to Grossman Heinz contacts, posting to free and paid job sites and listservs, and outreach to client networks.
  • Review and score candidate applications.
  • Conduct first round phone interviews and second round interviews to identify candidates to advance to interviews with Grossman Heinz principals and clients.
  • Prepare candidates for client interviews by helping to answer questions, and providing background materials and other resources.
  • Facilitate finalist interviews with clients, develop and administer writing assignments, and conduct reference checks.
  • Communicate search progress on a regular basis to clients.
  • Create and track search timelines, organize and maintain resume and recruitment databases.
  • Continually develop and refine systems and best practices.
  • Research, develop and manage the implementation of a search database to better utilize and grow the firm's lists for recruitment, candidate management, and targeted search marketing communications.

Qualifications (in no particular order):

  • A minimum of 8 years experience working with advocacy organizations, political campaigns, labor unions or for elected officials.
  • Excellent communication skills and judgment. The ideal candidate will possess skills that will allow her/him to work closely with both clients and potential candidates to ensure the best fit is made.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage the firm's diverse clients and develop new business.
  • Proven ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines in a highly organized manner.
  • Strong work ethic and the ability to work both independently and with a team.
  • Highly proficient with technology, with a strong ability to learn the ins and outs of new software platforms. 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, 24/7 campaign-like environment and manage multiple priorities.
